(5 Feb. 2019) Standard Sevetian Script Approved
IROKA -- The Sevetian People's Assembly has approved a version of the Sevetian script for official use in the country's territory. The script has 133 characters in total, including the 26 characters that form the Sevetian alphabet.
Originally, Sevetian was written using the alphabet. However, as time passed, the alphabet evolved into a form of abugida with the creation of new characters. Initially, only those characters formed by a consonant and a vowel were added to the system. The resulting script became popular rapidly, since it was easier and faster to write. In recent years, characters representing diphthongs appeared and began being used. Due to the expansion of the script among the Sevetian people, some equivalent characters appeared. The need for a single writing system drove an initiative within the People's Assembly.
Several characters that are of regular use in the country, most notably those corresponding to the segments ai, al, ei, and is, have not been included in the standard script. The scholars that defined the standard version of the script considered those units not common enough, and that adding them will not make a significant difference in the way Sevetian words are written. However, they added that those characters and others may be included at some point in the future, depending on how Sevetian continues to develop and evolve.
A chart showing the standard version of the Sevetian script can be found below.
